The Arrival of Spring (Cherry Blossoms)

Each year I eagerly await the arrival of the cherry blossoms as they (and the accompanying crowds of tourists) are one of the first signs of spring in DC.  I wanted to share a few photos of the blossoms with you.  Aren’t the blossoms lovely?

This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the gift of the trees.  You can read more about the history of the trees on the National Cherry Blossom Festival website.

On my walk home, I stumbled across the National Capitol Park’s tulip library.  Somehow I have managed to overlook this gem on prior visits to the cherry blossoms.  The garden had so many varieties of tulips that I lost count.  (A Map for the 2012 Tulip Library from the National Park Service indicated that there were 93 cultivars and over 10,000 bulbs planted in the library.)  The tulips were so bright and vibrant.

What’s your favorite sign of spring?
