DIY Christmas Ornaments: Plastic Utensil Snowflakes

Hi, I hope that everyone who celebrated Thanksgiving this past week had a wonderful holiday! I had a fun holiday spending time with family and cooking up a storm in the Atlanta area. My husband was in charge of making macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and stuffing and I was responsible for red velvet cupcakes, sweet potato dinner rolls, and sweet potato cinnamon breakfast rolls (for the morning after Thanksgiving). We also helped my father-in-law brine a turkey. The turkey ended up being the one of the best turkeys that I have ever had, which is saying a lot because I generally dislike turkey and fill up on sides on Thanksgiving.

Although I have been posting Christmas ornaments and crafts for a couple of weeks now, now that Thanksgiving is over I am in full Christmas craft mode! Today I am excited to be visiting Allison at A Glimpse Inside Blog.

I hope that you’ll stop by Allison’s blog to see how I transformed silver colored plastic utensils from Thanksgiving dinner into snowflake Christmas tree ornaments.

Come back later this week to see what else I have been working on.

Snowflake Sugar Cookie Recipe

Only three days until Christmas! This year went by so quickly, but there is still time to make a batch of cookies or two.  In fact, I plan to spend some time today baking. This is one of my favorite cookie recipes. I have made these cookies for many different occasions, including a baby shower and to celebrate the arrival of spring.  I made the latest batch for Jaime and my annual holiday dessert party.  To help give our party a cohesive elegant look we decided to make all of the desserts red and white.  Recently I have been a bit obsessed with snowflake cookie cutters and I figured that this was a perfect time to put them to use and make some snowflake cookies.  Earlier this season I put them to use to make salt dough snowflake ornaments.

DIY Christmas Ornaments: Salt Dough Snowflakes

This past weekend, in addition to making the pumpkin bread that I blogged about earlier this week, I also finished making some salt dough ornaments.  I went to a couple of stores, but couldn’t find a snowflake cookie cutter so I used a daisy and star cookie cutter to make these ornaments.

Salt Dough Snowflake OrnamentsOf course, once I made these ornaments  it seemed like all of the the stores got their winter cookie cutters in stock and I saw snowflake cookie cutters in four different stores. Don’t you hate when that happens? I guess I will just have to make another batch of ornaments!

I think that these ornaments would be pretty hanging on a Christmas tree, as a tag on a gift, or hanging from a fireplace mantle.
