Hello there. I know it has been very quiet around here the last couple of months, but I have been working on a variety of holiday crafts that I am excited to share with you.
First up are these pine cone Christmas trees. I already had almost all of the supplies for these trees on hand, but I purchased the pots at a dollar store. The pine cones were scavenged last winter.
The pine cones had been in my garage for over a year, but I wanted to make sure that they were not harboring any critters so I carefully washed the pine cones in soapy water. The pine cones closed when I washed them, but after drying on newspapers for about a day they opened again.
I painted the pots. I then painted the tip of each scale on the pine cones.
When the paint was dry I put a thin line of glue on the edge of the scales near the top of my mini tree and sprinkled glitter on the glue to make it look like the mini trees had been dusted by frost. When the glue dried I set a pine cone in each painted pot and topped each pine cone with a star made out of a craft foil.
To make the pine cone trees, I used the following:
- Clean pine cones
- Craft paint
- Brush
- Craft glue
- Glitter
- Small terracotta pots
- Aluminum stars
Enjoy!
Oh I love these! So cute and just the right amount of sparkle! Did you make the foil stars? They’re perfect! Good to see you posting again!
Thanks! Hoping to begin posting regularly again for the holidays. I appreciate you stopping by.
Please post your crafty ideas for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I absolutely love the pinecone trees. Can I purchase those shaped pinecones in a craft store?
I collected the pinecones outside but many craft stores around me sell them
Where did you get the stars??
I made the stars.
I’m a Brownie leader. I took the girls on a little hike and let them pick up their own pinecones, then we made these at our next meeting. They loved it!!! They got 2 badges 1- nature and 1- craft. Thank you so so much!!!!
What a great use for pine cones! Thanks for sharing

I love, love, love this project because it offers even the youngest crafter a chance to create something wonderful for the holiday season. It is sooo elegant. Thanks for sharing!–Deb (DialMforMoms.com)
Deb,
Thanks! I’ve been trying to create simple projects that don’t take tons of time. More soon . . .

These are just adorable! I was thinking about putting a little bottle brush tree under my glass bell jar, but now I think I will make one of these instead! So cute!
Great idea! Would love to see a photo if you do.
Thanks for stopping by.

Very cute! Want to do this as a class project for class Christmas party! Are the pinecones sitting just on the rim ofthe pot or is there something underneath it? Thanks!
Hi Regina,
I just pushed the pine cones into the pots because I want to be able to reuse the pots for paper flowers in the spring. If I wanted the pine cones in the pots to be more permanent I would put a ring of superglue on the bottom of the pine cones.
I would love it if you would share photos if you do this project!
Have a nice weekend,
Marie

Can you tell me what size the clay pots are, the ones with the pine cone xmas tree project.
Mary, Sorry for the delay in my response. I hope you’ve found some pots for pine one Christmas trees. I’ve used a couple of different sizes of pots to make these trees. The ones shown in my post are 2 1/2″. I purchased them at my local dollar store.

I too love the trees and have a bunch of pinecones and plan to copy from you. Thanks
I too love the trees and have a bunch of pinecones so making them will be on my list this year.
What size terra cotta pot did you use in this craft? 1 7/8 inch? Or bigger
The size will depend on the size of your pinecones.
