Candy Flowers: Another Take on Sugar Cookie Decorations

These flowers are relatively easy to make, yet are very pretty on baked goods.  I have made a couple of variations of these, but I made the ones that I am sharing today for Jaime and my summer party.

Candy Flower CookiesThese flowers were inspired by Southern Living’s gumdrop flowers. I wasn’t able to find any gum drops at the grocery stores that we frequent–and thought the taste of spice drops, which the stores did have  would be too strong–so I used fruit slice candy.

Having trouble picking a watermelon?

Sorry I can’t help you with that as I haven’t mastered the art of watermelon picking myself, but I can tell you what I do when I cut open a watermelon and discover that it is not so sweet. I pour a can of 7UP or Sprite (or ginger ale in a pinch) over the sliced melon and chill the melon. The soda imparts a sweetness to the watermelon and adds a very subtle lemon-lime (or ginger) flavor to the melon.
