This cucumber and zucchini soup makes a great summer appetizer or even a main course. I like it best chilled, but it can also be served warm. Jaime and I made this soup for our summer party and served it in parfait glasses with a Sun Chip, sour cream, and dill garnish. The chips and sour cream add a nice salty crunchiness and creaminess to the soup respectively.
These flowers are relatively easy to make, yet are very pretty on baked goods. I have made a couple of variations of these, but I made the ones that I am sharing today for Jaime and my summer party.
These flowers were inspired by Southern Living’s gumdrop flowers. I wasn’t able to find any gum drops at the grocery stores that we frequent–and thought the taste of spice drops, which the stores did have would be too strong–so I used fruit slice candy.
While we were on vacation a couple of weeks ago, Jaime and I spent some time putting together a menu for a summer party. We wanted to serve a summery menu of heavy hors d’oeuvres that would minimize–albeit not entirely eliminate–our oven use during the party. We served some of our favorite recipes at this party and I plan to share many of the recipes here on this blog. Continue reading
As promised, here is part two of my recap of Jaime and my recent California vacation. (If you missed it, you can read part one here.) After spending a few days in the Sonoma and Napa area, we headed back to San Francisco for a few days. I’ve already shared a bit of serendipitous crafting that I did at the Asian Art Museum so I just wanted to share a few additional photos of activities we enjoyed in San Francisco.
I wanted to share a few photos of some of the highlights from Jaime and my recent California vacation.
Jaime and I were on vacation in Sonoma, Napa, and San Francisco last week. We are back home now, but I picked up a lot of good ideas for cooking and crafting during our vacation and I am looking forward to sharing some of them with you. I’ll also be sharing some of the highlights from our time in California once I have had a chance to sort through my photos and get readjusted to East Coast time.
In the meantime, I wanted to share this simple craft that I did on our vacation.
Yes, I managed to unexpectedly get a bit of crafting in on our vacation. Here’s how the serendipitous crafting happened:
